Grab Your Mates and Let’s Go

Adventure Camping as a way for churches to reach out to the fringe of the Church? NO WAY! Yet that’s exactly what some imaginative churches have been doing in partnership with SU, with tangible results.

St Paul’s Anglican Church, Boronia, took a group of young adults away in August last year. There were people established in the church and others on the fringe. Peter Leach, volunteer youth pastor, describes the fruit, “We had a few guys who never came to church, but the weekend really appealed to them. We got to know them and they enjoyed the experience so much. One now regularly participates in Bible study”.

St Luke’s Anglican Church, South Melbourne, booked a camp two years ago through SU and now has an annual booking. “We have added four new families to our church as a result of that camp,” said Michael Shaw.

SU worked with the combined churches at Rowville to take a group of marginalized young people camping. Realising that none of the local churches could do this on their own, they worked together to produce a ministry that was not only possible, but fantastic.

Adventure Camping is a great way to reach people on the edge of the church, so what are you waiting for?

A note on age groups

We are open to running programs for almost all ages. We can tailor a camp for Youth group kids right up to 50’s plus. However, because of the nature of the activities there are minimum age limits for some activities.

How It Works

Following your expression of interest an SU staff member will contact you. A suitable program, time and budget will then be worked out according to your requirements and the availability of resources. A lead-time of at least two months is usually required to organise a camp. Once a suitable solution is agreed to and deposit is paid, a camp coordinators kit will be sent to you. This kit contains all the forms and instructions you need to organise your group. You do not have to worry about the activities, accommodation or special equipment, as SU will take care of that.

The Camp is an SU camp but we encourage groups to provide some leadership with spiritual input.

At the commencement of the camp you will give the coordinators kit back to the camp director with all the completed forms and the balance of payment.

A deposit will need to be paid to secure the camp date and book accommodation.

Like to be a leader?

We are always looking for leaders to help run our camps. If you would like to get involved or participate in our training please contact Mark Francis.
