SU MISSIONS

What is an SU Mission?

It’s a chance to get involved in serving the community, offering fun, creative age-appropriate activities for children, youth and/or families, because of a basic belief in the value of people and of the desire to celebrate life together.

It’s an opportunity for Christians to express in action, as well as words, the hope that they have of meaningful life, deep confidence and connection with God through their relationship with Jesus.

It’s a place where that faith is strengthened and put to the test by living in community with others of different denominations, ethnic backgrounds, priorities and personalities.

If you want to hang out with the same people, do the usual stuff and have a rest, then an SU Mission is NOT for you - not right now anyway! If you’re interested, read on!

Where?

Each year Scripture Union teams of volunteers run Missions (SUFMs and Theos) at beaches, in country towns, at suburban primary schools and at high rise housing estates around Victoria. Click here for Mission dates & locations for 2007-08

Who?

Teams vary in size from 20 people to 70 or more! Volunteers must be 17 years of age or older - we don’t have an official upper limit! - and go through an application process before being accepted onto a team. These teams connect with over 8,500 young children and young people from Mallacoota to Portland, Williamstown to Ballarat.

When?

The dates listed are the dates the programs run and are still subject to change. Team members need to be available a day or so either side of these dates. Click here for Mission Dates 2007-08.

What?

On an SUFM children and families have a ball watching dramas, joining in crazy games, making things, hearing stories and being heard, all together and in smaller groups. At a Theos Mission young people can listen to music (live or DJ), munch, relax and chat with team members in a safe, coffee-shop environment.

How?

Application (to be involved on team) starts by filling in a application form including providing 2 referees. You can download the application form from the link at the top of this page or contact Helen Gray at heleng@suvic.org.au. Send the form back to us and mark clearly which mission you’d prefer to go on. Some teams have greater need for members than others, however, we can recommend a team if you have no particular preference. Team fees are usually in the vicinity of $150- $230.

If you’re 18y.o or over, you will need a Working With Children check which you appy for at Post Offices. They are free for volunteers and require passport photos.
