From The State Director - August Update

  Wednesday 5th August, 2020

SU Victoria helps children, young people and families experience God’s love and Good News. This time of ongoing social and economic crisis requires us to continue adapting our existing ministries while also stepping into new and creativity ministry opportunities. Your partnership, your generosity, prayer and involvement makes this possible. Thank you!

We are humbled and incredibly grateful for God’s provision for SU Victoria over the past three months. By the end of June, through the generosity of our supporters and with the support of Job Keeper, we reached our budget. This is an extraordinary result in this difficult season.

When last I wrote, there was much anticipation around the return to school for our Chaplains and for school camps once again running at Coolamatong. How quickly things can change! As schools continue to offer a combination of remote and classroom-based learning, SU Chaplains continue to serve and support students, staff and families. Following a successful School Holiday Day Camp Program, Coola will now only run a small number of school camps in Term 3, as schools once again cancel bookings. The Coola interns have loved the opportunity these past two weeks to once again work with students on school camps. They will now participate in a variety of ministry, life skills and maintenance activities for the remainder of the term.

Training for our Summer Mission and Camps is currently happening online. Next Saturday our directors and their core teams will participate together in Advanced Leaders Training. Please pray for Field Ministries Director, Jonathan Vandenberg, the Regional Coordinators and our ministry specialist and trainers as they work with our teams to plan ministry activities in a changing context. Our Engagement and Equipping Team continue to invest in our Children and Family ministry interns, provide online training events for volunteers, churches and participants from SU movements across Australia and internationally, and develop training modules and ministry resources (visit suvic.org.au/training).

Meanwhile, we are also re-focussing our attention on the national integration, and State Boards are currently making important decisions around the process and timing of a proposed merger. We’ll likely have more to share next month.
As a movement we are dependent on God, grateful for your partnership, seeking to serve with creativity and impact, and celebrating the ways we see God at work in young lives.

God bless you!
